Our long tradition of work in education continues to this day along with new and expanded ministries. In addition to sponsoring a college and high school academy, the Sisters of Mercy of the New Jersey Regional Community operate a school for exceptional children, and serve in seven high schools and 17 elementary schools. Together with the Sisters of The Good Shepherd, we also sponsor a middle school for girls.
Providing spiritual direction and pastoral ministry is another calling of our community. Some of us work in parishes throughout New Jersey. We also operate our own house of prayer, and we are involved in providing various forms of service to the poor and suffering. For example, we sponsor an emergency assistance center known as Mercy Center in Asbury Park where the needs of the poor are considerable.
Our sisters also work in medicine, law, social work, nursing, hospital chaplaincy, and counseling. Our work settings are equally diverse: schools, an Indian reservation, a county office on aging, Catholic Social Service offices, marriage tribunals, senior citizen centers, a diocesan spiritual center, a center for the urban poor, nursing homes, hospitals, substance abuse facilities, and child care centers.
Our ministries take us from one end of the state to the other and beyond in response to the Gospel message. If you would like to visit any one of our ministries, let us know. In the spirit of Catherine's hospitality, you are welcome to see how we serve, how we pray, and how we live in community. |
