Sisters of Mercy welcome Barbara McDermott to the Novitiate

Sister Barbara McDermott recently became a novice in the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas, Regional Community of New Jersey. The ceremony took place July 22 in the Catherine McAuley Chapel at Georgian Court College, Lakewood.

Sister Barbara entered the Sisters of Mercy in August, 1999, from St. Luke Parish, Toms River, NJ, where she ministered as a catechist and Eucharistic Minister of the Sick and also served on the parish Renew team.

During her two-year candidacy Sister Barbara lived with the Mercy community in Bradley Beach, NJ, and continued her position as first grade teacher in Whiting Elementary School, Whiting, NJ. As a novice Sister Barbara will enter into a more intensive study of religious life with other Mercy novices in the Institute of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas.
