MERCY RIDE/WALK FOR AIDS PLANNED FOR OCTOBER 19, 2002
The Sisters of Mercy of New Jersey are sponsoring the fifth annual Mercy Ride/Walk for AIDS on October 19. The event will benefit the Robert Wood Johnson Pediatric AIDS Program and the Heart of Mercy House for orphaned and abandoned children with HIV/AIDS, Honduras.
The event will be hosted by Union Catholic Regional High School, Scotch Plains, NJ. The ride/walk will begin at 9:00 am and end at Union Catholic. There will be a 25-mile bike ride and a three-mile walk. The routes will be fully supported. The area is urban and flat.
A registration fee of $25.00 per individual and $40.00 per family should be received by October 1, 2002. The fee will include a T-shirt and refreshments along the route and at the end. Individuals are asked to raise $100.00 and families $200.00. Day of the ride/walk registration fee is $100.00 with no pledges.

The Sisters of Mercy, founded in Ireland in 1831 by Venerable Catherine McAuley, have been traditionally dedicated to the education and the advancement of women and the poor. They have worked in many cities and towns throughout the State of New Jersey since 1873. The Sisters of Mercy Regional Community of New Jersey numbers 281 Sisters and 127 Mercy Associates serving in schools, parishes, social service agencies, and other ministries. They joined 24 other regional communities of Mercy on July 20, 1991, to found the Institute of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas; an organization of 5,100 sisters and 2,300 lay associates.
